| A Day of Fun in the Sun - Lao New Year 2008 The Lao New Year celebration kicked off at Wat Lao of Riverside, California on Sunday, April 13th. It was a beautiful day and there were plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy. Laotians came from everywhere to celebrate Lao New Year, including Orange, San Diego, and Riverside County. The day began with the religious ceremony and blessings from the Buddhist monks in the morning to bring in the New Year. Afterwards, the festivity was filled with fun and excitement for the whole family. There were performances by our traditional Lao dancers, food and gift shops from members of our local community, and live bands entertaining the crowd throughout the day. We cannot celebrate Lao New Year without getting wet. There were plenty of those who enjoyed being soaked, especially when the weather was so hot, over ninety degrees temperature that day. Laotians of all ages celebrated by spraying, squirting, and splashing water at each other every chance they get. This was definitely a perfect day to welcome in the New Year. We would like to wish everyone good health, an abundance of wealth, and a Happy Lao New Year. |
